SURVIVORS’ MENTORS THEMATIC AREAS

Survivors Mentors (SM) is a community-driven organization committed to empowering women, girls and youth in Kajiado County through advocacy, protection, healing and human rights promotion. We work closely with survivors of SGBV, vulnerable women and girls or reproductive age and the young people to create safe, informed and empowered communities.

Through mentorship, psychosocial support, awareness creation and advocacy, we strive to build a society where every individual lives with dignity, equality and freedom from violence.

  1. GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE (GBV)

“Ending violence, restoring Dignity.” As Survivors Mentors, we believe that every woman and girl deserves to live free from violence, fear and discrimination. Our GBV program focuses on risk identification, risk reporting, risk prevention, response, awareness creation and survivor-centered support for individuals affected by SGBV. We work with communities, local leaders, cultural leaders, religious leaders, schools and stakeholders to challenge harmful cultural practices, promote gender equality and strengthen protection systems for survivors. Through safe spaces, referrals, education and empowerment programs, we help survivors regain confidence, healing and hope.

We are committed to breaking the silence around GBV and creating safer communities where women and girls can thrive.

  1. MENTAL HEALTH

“Healing minds, strengthening communities.’ Mental health is at the heart of individuals and community wellbeing. Survivors Mentors recognizes the emotional and psychosocial challenges faced by victims and survivors of violence, women, girls and youth. Our mental health program promotes psychosocial support, emotional healing, resilience building and community awareness on mental wellness. We provide safe spaces where individuals can speak openly, access support and begin their healing journey without stigma and judgement.

Through mentorship, counselling referrals, peer support and awareness campaigns, we aim to nurture healthier minds and stronger families and communities.

  1. SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHTS (SRHR)

“Empowering choices, protecting futures.” S.M is committed to promoting Sexual and reproductive health and rights among women, girls and the youth of Kajiado County. We believe that every individual has the right to access accurate information, quality healthcare and make informed decisions about their bodies and future. Our SRHS program focuses on awareness creation, menstrual health education, prevention of teenage pregnancies, access to reproductive health information, menstrual products distribution and addressing harmful cultural practices that affect the wellbeing of our women and girls.

Through community engagement, mentorship and advocacy, we empower young people and women to make informed choices, protect their health and live dignified lives.

  1. ADVOCACY AND HUMAN RIGHTS

Advocacy

“Raising voices for change.’ S.M is dedicated to amplifying voices of women, girls, youth and the survivors of SGBV in decision making spaces. We advocate for policies, systems and community actions that protect rights, promote equality and address the root causes of violence and discrimination. Our advocacy work focuses on community engagement, civic participation, awareness campaigns and partnerships and collaborations with stakeholders to influence positive social change. We empower communities with knowledge and platforms to speak out against injustices and demand accountability.

We believe that sustainable change happens when communities are informed, united and actively involved.

Human Rights

“Promoting Dignity, equality and justice.” Human rights are the foundation of peaceful and inclusive communities. Survivors Mentors works to promote awareness and protection of human rights, especially for women, girls, youth and the survivors of SGBV. We educate communities on rights, responsibilities, access to justice and protection mechanism while advocating for equality, inclusion and respect for every individual regardless of gender or social status.
